Ok so im new here, been doing photography on and off for 5 years but really just got the passion to make something of it. my question for all the younger photographers in here is what do your friends think when you carry your camera everywhere with you. my friends tend to give me some bs but i tell them they will thank me when there older.

It depends. Most people are impressed at first (ooh, big flat black cameras...) but it eventually wears off. Then they see my portfolio and totally understand.
Most people simply dont care and, in fact, many friends that I go on photo safari with have come to accept it. They'll just keep walking when I stop to take a picture, and will come find me when I eventually walk around a building for the better shot

It's been generally accepted since I was in high school that I was weird like that. Sometimes I'd get teased for having my camera, but if something happened, they'd turn to me and say "please say you got that shot!".
When I was in college, people either thought I was a photography student, or didn't care I carred my little camera, because in college anything can happen (assuming you went to the right place). I'm in my second year of grad school, and there people really don't care if you carry a camera or not, unless the lens is in their face. Even lugging around tripods doesn't garner a second look or blink. It's the early years that really matter I suppose, and those are usually the roughest you experience. I just got my DSLR and no one even cares anymore. My friends actually ask me what's wrong if I don't have a camera on me. |

Friends get very annoyed when I stop every 5 seconds to take a photo...so I tend to go out on my own to photograph. I find I can concentrate better. And if I want to spend 2 hours at one location - I can :-)

People that aren't photographers will never really understand, in my opinion. They don't have the same passion for capturing those moments or scenes, so they probably just don't see why it's "necessary" to always have a camera with them.
For most photographers, however, it's obviously very different. Plus, I think Osmosis made a good point. Most people are, at first, impressed at anything more than a point and shoot camera. But, over time, they'll eventually come to accept it. But, I must say that my friends haven't really hassled me too much. If anything, they ask me questions in hopes of understanding photography a little better. I can't fault them for that!
