Default Budget "Wedding Photographer" on Craigslist

Apparently this person is for real...and not a joke post! Yikes......I just hope no one actually hires them.

No, it really is a joke. It was posted here last week. It's to make fun of and discourage anybody from trying to get into the wedding photography business who isn't already there. Kinda sad actually.

Hello. I am very interested in the offer you posted on Craigslist… what a great resource this is! You said to email you but I don’t know how to use that @ thing, so I hope you get this message.

I am getting married tomorrow and would like to hire you, based on your very thoughtful description of your services. Even though you’ve never photographed a wedding before, I’ve never been married before either, so it’ll be a first for both of use… how bad could it be? I’m confident your pictures will be stunning and just as you described – classy, elegant, and artistic.

Since I’m the groom, and I’m going to be there anyway, and I was originally planning to take pictures myself. My wife bought us a professional looking camera a few weeks ago, so I was going to use that. I haven’t used it yet and was just about to read the manual when I saw your listing. It sounds like we may have gotten the same camera, so that makes me feel conformable about hiring you.

I hope you're available tomorrow. Please come to out church for the wedding at 9am The ceremony will be about an hour and then the reception is about 10 miles away (maybe a bit more) and goes until 11pm. I can pay your 250.00 rate for the day, and would give you a cashier’s check (I am out of personal checks at the moment because I had to write so many of them to the other wedding vendors, who unfortunately charge way more than you, I really don’t know how they get away with it).

We’re looking for ceremony shots, formals of family, formals of the wedding party, reception shots, details of the catering, flowers, and cake (which were all very expensive), and I hope you might also get some needed portraits of my 101 year old grandfather (he hasn’t been photographed since 1973). While you’re at it, would you mind also snapping a couple of executive portraits for me and my bride? (we’re starting a business together)

I’d also be happy to pay you a bit more than $15 for gas, since I know driving can get very expensive.

We don’t need the $100 Bridal Enlargements after the wedding, because we're just going to copy the CD and mail it around to all the guests afterward so they can do what they want with them (maybe they’ll order some bridal enlargements through). In fact, I noticed you mentioned “adding a glow” to the photos to give them the best look, and I’m wondering if I would be able to get the photos without that glow and save a bit of money since you won’t have to do that work.(?)

Lastly, I should mention, there will be a celebrity guest there, so please be sure to take his picture, but please - PLEASE - don't tell anyone, ever. He usually charges photographers a lot of money to take his picture.

Thanks so much. I really look forward to meeting you.

Please contact me for the location!

Joke or not (which I know it was), it's unfortunate that we're surrounded by those types.

"I own a camera therefore I can take photos like the pros, who charge a lot more."
Wow.
That camera must be like... "The Mask" (Jim Carrey)

Yeah, I hate it when people try. And confidence is a real turn-off too. People should hire the burned-out, 60-year-old pro that thinks digital cameras are the devil.
