I'm thinking of getting an ebook reader for my wife and figured there must be a bunch of camera people that are into these too. What is good? I was looking at either the Sony or the Ectaco Jetbook Lite.

I don't have one, but I've been researching them.
The biggest limitation is that, at the moment, each reader locks you in to one specific vendor for buying books. Kindle=>Amazon, nook=>Barnes&Noble, Sony=>Sony Connect, Ectaco=>???. One of the things that's going to have to happen before eReaders really take off is the ability to shop around for your e-books. That, and lowering the price.

I looked at the Nook and really did not like it at all - found it very awkward to use. The new Sony is nice but it has a huge price tag. We decided to get the Jetbook Lite as Newegg was selling them for only $119. People either love or hate the unit, but to us it seemed like a good place to start as it has a lot of compatibility and does not cost a lot. Figure if she likes it then in a year we can buy a much better one for not much more.
Found this great forum MobileRead Forums that really is a killer source for info.

I'm a pretty voracious reader and I travel quite a bit. I got tired of lugging several books with me or buying books along the trip so I bought the original Nook. Not long after my girlfriend bought an iPad and while I felt like the Nook was a better reading experience, I liked some aspects of the iPad. Eventually I convinced myself that I needed color and bought a Nook Color. What I've discovered is that many of the books that I read (mostly older travel) are out or print and unavailable for the Nook, so I reverted to carrying books again. All of this suggests to me that you make sure that the bulk of what you read is available electronically before you pull the trigger.

Many of those out of print books can be found on the internet for free and with free software converted to whatever format your particular reader uses. Take a look at calibre software which is great for format conversion.
