Default Suggestion for a scanner & photo project

I am looking for a scanner that will be compatible with a MacBook Pro, OSX 10.6 or Snow Leopard. My project is to scan 30-40 year old family photos, to preserve the story of the "growing up" of my two children and extended family. I would like to add some journaling. So I really have two questions, suggestion for the scanner I need to purchase and suggestions if you have done a similar project. Thanks!

Hello Nona,

My wife has been working on our scanning project fro the last several years. We use an HP Photosmart C5180 printer/scanner/copier. It is also Mac compatible. It produces good resolution scans as well as photo quality prints. One tip to look out for is to clean the photos before you scan. 3M make a cleaner for this, check with your local camera supply shop. Otherwise you can clean in PP with Photoshop, but its slow and tedious.

The HP printer also does multiple photos at one time as well and you can save and rename them as you like.

Good Luck.

Cheers,

John W.

I use a Canoscan 4000FS USB for negatives and slides and an EPSON flatbed scanner for prints.

I did the same thing for mom for Christmas. Filled up a digital frame (since all photo and scrap books get ruined and lost) with 1000 images. I got a film scanner from Ion. While the product says it's PC only, you can download a MAC driver from their site.
