Default Even my parents have point & shoots!

My parents have finally joined tha digital age! Only last year they bought their very first computer. My mum and step-dad had never even used a mouse before! Now they have their very own cameras. Mum has a fujifilm finepix j28 and step-dad has a sony cybershot.

My stepdad phoned to say that he is thrilled with his camera. I asked if he's taken many photos yet and he said no its still in its box (huh? So how can you say you are thrilled with it?).

My mum on the other hand is much more technically adept and has been fiddling about with the controls. She said "whats this graph? I suppose it highlights she shadows and hightlights right?". I said "yeah tha'ts the histrogram mum".

You really have to spell things out really A,B C with them cos otherwise it just baffles them.

Went down to spend time with them yesterday to install their software and give them some "training".

I'll be looking forward to seeing their photos in due course.

2 Christmases ago, I got my parents a Kodak P&S with printer bundle. They were going to the Galapagos, so the camera & printer was a perfect gift. My Dad is a technophobe, so I had to get something simple so even he couldn't screw it up.

My step dad is the biggest technophobe that ever walked the earth. He is TERRIFIED of screwing up.

He phoned just now to tell me that he and my mum had a fight because she has arthritis in her fingers so her fingers are somewhat crooked and she was trying to show him what buttons to press but he was confused as to what buttons she was pointing at! (LOL! )

Spent the holidays at my girlfriends folk house. Had to show her father how to delete the 47 shots of his feet and legs he got while sitting in his recliner. Then how to use the new printer he got for Christmas. Luckily, I've known him most of my life, so we get along great, he's easy to work with.

I gave my parents a digital camera this year too. I can see the confusion written all over their faces.
I told my mother that they are not going to make any more digital cameras.
She asked why,,
I said that since she was the last person to move into the digital camera age, there was no need to make any more.

Oh Candid,

You are infering some ageist notions here. I'm having great difficulty in getting my grandchildren to understand the finer technical points of this computer age. I could tell you some funny things that they get up to as well, but I love my grand kids too much to embarass them in public.

I know you are only young, but there are some older and wise head here as well.

Enjoy the cold brrrrrr.

Cheers,

John W

My father has been doing photography for a long time. I think that his most recent camera was an 1984 Minolta. We got him a P&S Kodak with a printer. He never used it. Then I took him out I think last year to get a Sony DSLR because he could use his old lenses. He uses the DSLR which is great but he doesn't put them on the computer that I built for him a few years before we got him the first camera. It is a slow process but I think that he will eventually get it.

Personally I think that it has a little to with that he doesn't have to learn it because I keep "helping" him with the transfer process.

I got my parents a digital photo frame and loaded up with pictures of all the family (images of the neices from Facebook - that won't go down well when they see them, but that's another story!). I set it up so it'll randomly play all the pictures but the old man keeps turning it off to save electricity!

My grandfather had a digital camera before I did. ^_^

I keep telling him he needs to get a heavier cam though; he loves his little ELPH but all the photos have camera shake from pressing the shutter button. D'oh.
