I'm looking to buy a D90. Have been for a year now
![]() How is it that these stores are selling them so much cheaper than anywhere else? Nikon D90 Digital Camera | Compare Prices & Save shopping in Australia Has anyone bought any of their gear from any of these stores? 'CITIWIDE' seems to be significantly cheaper. TEDS charges $1,399 for the D90 body. Some of these stores are more than $500 cheaper... I don't see how this is possible (unless these sites are dodgy). Any opinions? PS: Where do you buy your cameras and gear in Australia? |

If there are very large differences in prices, it may the that camera store is a "grey" importer so double check warranty details.
First preference especially for bodies is a "local" camera store. For lenses first preference is a local camera store however if there is a large difference in prices (>10% including postage)then it will be on line usually with Quality Camera sales (A Canon retailer) or Discount Digital. Last 4 major purchase (>$AU1500) were at Fletchers Discount Digital Camera house Micheals of Melbourne (They had a Canon 135 F2 just sitting on the shelf).

As Richard said, if the price looks too good to be true, it will be a grey import. Personally, I'd never risk it with a body, even though I have spare bodies, I couldn't cope with being without a body for three months whilst a "dodgy" importer dealt with a warranty repair on their terms.
I have bought a handful of lenses via this route, though generally my "playtime" lenses, not the ones that earn me money. At the end of the day, you have to make a call on whether you could deal with being down a camera if something went wrong. For major purchases, I generally stick with Foto Riesel (bodies & lenses - keep checking their pricing, it can change by a few $100 randomly), Digital Camera Warehouse or L&P (though generally for lighting and pocketwizards), though I have seen some good deals on bodies from Ryda.com.au (it's generally where I buy my CF cards actually). All of these sell legit Aussie gear.
