Default Chatted to an old pro...

So I chatted to my wifes uncle the other day for the first time since I've gotten into photography, he's been a pro for close to 60 years now, mainly shooting for corporates and advertising (If you live in Australia and watch commercial TV or read big name magazines, you see his work regularly).

We didn't have long to chat (we were at a funeral) but it was great talking shop as much as we could, one thing that really surprised me was, I knew WAY more about what his cameras (a couple d2x's and a heap of older backups) do - functionally, than he did. He mentioned bracketing his shots and I said my d60 didn't bracket, he looked at me funny and then explained what bracketing was, I said yeah, but yours can do it automagically, up to 9 frames set your own EV! He was very surprised and then said he's never read the manual!!! Ever, on any of his digitals. He's still shooting almost exactly the same as he was 50 years ago, except he can check eyes are open when shooting people.

I really surprises me, he's always got the latest and greatest Mac and know's his way around photoshop like someone straight from school, so it's not like he can't keep up with technology?

Anyway, just thought I'd share my surprise.

There are books that explain the camera functions in ways that we can understand. go to Barnes & Nobles or another bookstore. The Magic Lantern Guides published by Lark Books has photographers who actually publish photo camera guides in layman terms on just about every dSLR made these days. go to Lark Books
Here ya go: http://www.larkbooks.com/catalog?sec...ey=22&limit=10

Isn't that suppose to be the universal language I'm sure they are published in other languages as well, but since I speak English and Japanese I just worry about those two languages
