Most of the guys who shoot kingfishers say use a hide, and target a branch that hangs out over the water. Try googling "kingfisher photography tips". You'll get loads of pages, like this one:
http://photo.net/nature-photography-forum/00Jt1L I saw a Belted Kingfisher sitting on a wire near the freeway once, but never caught sight of it again as I went to hunt it down with camera in hand. Good luck!

Those suckers are fast! They don't stay in one place long and they spook easy.
Camera on AFC and multi point sensor (51 point 3D on nikon).

Hi again. Thanx for all the tips. I'm using a Nikon D90 with a Tamron AF70-300 lense so will really have to get pretty close to the bird to shoot it well.. My biggest problem is that the it hangs out right next to a very busy footpath..
Thanx agian and I hope you all have a Happy New Year... |
