The point is, sure, maybe you would give up the copyright IF you won the contest, but when I go back and read the rule again - they clearly state you give up copyright JUST BY SUBMITTING your image. That means you cant even submit it elsewhere - EVER!
Granting license if you win a contest is one thing, but giving up ownership of the image forever just by submitting that image? Seems to smell of 5 day old fish, as someone already said here. I, like many of you, have entered the same image in more than one contest. With NG's rules, you can't do that - ever. Anyway, no thanks, maybe keep my images limited to local and regional exhibits and contests. My desire is to share these works anyway, not try to get rich through photos I have taken. Even NG doesn't have enough cache if they hold a gun to my head. |

Gotta agree whole-heartedly with you photobyfelix. I'm definitely not a fan of these sort of rights grab things.

The thing I can't get my head around, is why they would need copyright? Surely a simple non-exclusive use license for the image would be enough.

in this case, an exclusive license would be close to what they're looking for. I think they want the copyright so they can license the image out to whoever they want however they want with no strings attached.
