Default Blog Hosting Site

Hi,

This may have been covered before but I don't have the time to dig through old posts. Does anyone know of a good blog hosting site for photos? I am currently using Wordpress, but the way it compresses the files - it distorts my photos, kind of greys them so they don't look as bright and contrasty as I edited them.

Also, what is a good (and relatively cheap) website host for photographers? And with the website, is it relatively easy to design the site with certain hosts or do you have to have a web designer do it for you?

Thanks in advance!

It depends on what your want to do, you could host your photos on flickr, Picasa web or any number of photo sites. Then you can post your images in your blog.

If you looking for a photo album type blog then you could use a number of free photo album web apps but you will have to go look for the one that fits your needs.

You can get free hosting from sites like 110mb.com or you can pay for cheap hosting at sites like site5.com.

I use a PHP class (Faulk*Me || Project Home) that I wrote that pulls my images and sets from flickr and I built my web site (Down*Time*Com || Winter Faulk's Photo Gallery) I use site5.com for my hosting and I have been very happy with them.

I think you must be referring to wordpress.com, not wordpress.org, If I were you, I'd set up a hosted wordpress.org install. I use a combo of Smugmug and Wordpress for my site: Perfected Perspectives -- Photography by Andrew Rodgers
I use Web Hosting by DreamHost Web Hosting: Web Sites, Domain Registration, WordPress, Ruby on Rails, all on Debian Linux! for my hosting, I've been very pleased.
There's also an Open-Source blog platform called PixelPost, specifically for photo-blogs, but a lot of people are migrating from pixelpost to wordpress, so that tells you that it has it's limitations.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
