Default great shots! your camera must be really good!

right, I'm sick of hearing this. anyone else?
Yes, I'm new. I've been studying photography for over 10 years now, back when it was film and I used to be in the darkroom every day, doing dodging and burning over the enlarger. Back when I needed paint and a fine paintbrush to paint over the line in the background join for a local professional.

So, why then, must it be the camera? Yoo Hoo...hello, ever think that maybe, just maybe I work my ass off every single day to learn how to get shots like that?

Yes I have bad ones, and great ones, and my business is new, but this is probably the worst insult I could ever hear.

I just smile and say, "yeah, it's a good one alright".

Anyone else get this?

Everyone gets that. Well, everyone who is even a half decent photographer, at any rate.

I'm mostly intrigued by how it only seems to apply to photographers. No one tells writers that their computers are really great.

The most important thing about the camera is what is directly behind the eye piece.

Relax, you know better than those that make the camera comments.

people are stupid and ignorant.. thats why

in the PhD (Press here dummy) world we live in where freekig wrist watches have a built in camera... what do you expect.

"my camera phone pictures suck.. but my $200 P&S does a better job.. i guess a $2000 dSLR must REALLY take great shots"

its just ignorance.. i too get annoyed.. nothing can be done about it other than nod and smile.

I tend to reply with "your cooking is great, you must have very expensive pans", or something along those lines.

It also happens in a few other areas, by the way. I've been told that I have a very nice car because the ride was so smooth and comfortable. The fact that I'm actually a good driver has nothing to do with it, obviously.

I was showing some pics to a neighbor that seen me with my dslr... She looked at them and the comment was "these look amazing. You are so lucky to have that camera!". I looked at her and smiled. Loved the shock on her face when i explained to her that those pics were taken with a very cheap point and shoot not with my dslr... But yes, i do consider myself lucky to have my DSLR...

Another comment that i loved was from my boyfriend- who is a photographer. After he got me the DSLR as a gift and i showed him some pics i took he commented on the camera and the great auto functions! He was more then surprised when i told him i actually used it in full manual, including the focus...

To do it justice i think that camera does make a difference in terms of technical quality. One of my fave pics with my kids is taken with my mobile camera. But if i try to look at it in a bigger size... hmmm... Not that great anymore...
