I can see both sides of the argument.
I know that if I take my children to a public place, there is a chance that someone could take their picture and use it for their own purposes. Do I want this to happen? Not really, but do I have control over it - NOPE!
When I am taking pictures in public, I do tend to not take pictures of children I don't know. Although I will admit that I have taken pictures of children on occassion. I will usually try to show these shots to the parents or adults that are there with the child - to ensure they are okay with it. So far I have not had anyone tell me I could not keep the picture.
A large percentage of my pictures are taken in the small village I live in. When I am here... I take pictures of anybody and everybody! Partially because I know everyone. Also, because I am the editor of the village paper. I use many of the pictures for the paper - but I always ensure that I have permission from the subject before the picture is used. I do not get any compensation for any pictures that are used and neither do the subjects. Just the enjoyment of seeing one of my pictures in the paper. I also give a copy of many of my better pictures to the subject of the picture - or their parents.

Amen!!
Although I fear that common sense in today's society is dying a slow death!
