The Canon 75-300 is kind of a crappy lens. It's usable, but the reviews aren't all that great.
The Canon 55-250mm IS is a great lens for the money. It has image stabalization, and is optically a lot better than the 75-300. You don't get much better until going up to the 75-200mm f2.8, which can run $800 for the Sigma and $1200 for the Canon. A recent shot with the Canon 55-250mm (I use it for a lot of my speed photography):

Oh thank you!! I was wondering why they wouldn't offer that lens with the better camera. Now it makes sense. I have been looking for a few months now and now that i'm going today to purchase they didn't offer the other kit. So glad I asked, I was stressing over here!
