Default I was starting to question the "always carry a camera" thing...

It can be annoying sometimes, more annoying to others sometimes, and honestly I don't always have a camera with me. But I usually have one somewhere nearby. I don't often carry a backpack and I don't carry a purse and having a camera "on me" has never resulted in a pic I couldn't have otherwise gotten.....until the other day.

A 3 mile walk to downtown for a court hearing....I decided to carry my G10 even though I knew I would have to go thru the hassle of checking it and leaving it w/ security and I didn't really expect to see anything special...and I got this.

Red Tail Hawk

A red tail hawk sitting in a tree...a low tree and not much interested in moving....I was able to get within 15 ft of the bird and get this picture...I was almost late for the hearing. But I made it in time and I got a nice pic. Because I just "happened" to have a camera w/ me.

Nice story and absolutely awesome capture!

I take my camera w/ me nearly every single day. Most days I never take it out of the bag. I have gotten used to carrying two bags (purse & camera), and most of my coworkers have become accustomed to me taking it out from time to time. I hope to have it should that perfect moment, such as this one for you, arrives.

All the best...

Truly worth it and the reason I will purchase the G11. Daily traveling with my work laptop and purse make carrying my big camera too much so I stopped.

Great capture! One shot can make all the worry and stuff about keeping a camera with you worth it.

The problem now is that you'll remember this shot in the future so every time you go out you'll have to have a camera with you.

My new family has been patient with my photography, but they sometimes want to just go out without me shooting. Understandible, I guess. But, even though we go on an outing and I don't plan on shooting, I'll still have my gear in the trunk, just in case.

On the rare occasion that I leave the house without my camera, even for a quick trip to the store if I realize I don't have my camera, I fight the urge to turn around and get it. I guess I need some help.

Very nice shot!

That's a great shot. You're lucky it didn't grab your camera.

Yup...my cameras go everywhere with me. Just my luck I'd miss something if I left them at home. Besides, if I get called, I need to get there ASAP! So the cameras and laptop are always in the car with me.

It's always the way for me - I take a camera almost everywhere - it's those times when I leave it at home that I see something I really wanted to photograph... always!

I picked up a single thinkTANK today so I could carry a single body around when I wander...

Great shot.. nice one!

Thank you for lighting a fire under my behind. I've been so busy doing photoshoots that my camera is pretty much always being stored in the HUGE bag, which I cant carry with me everywhere.
This has pormpted me to get my happy butt in gear and put a couple of lenses in my smaller bag and start carrying my camera around with me like I used to

That's why I got the G10...capable of very good images in most situations and small enough to be not much hassle to carry.
