Smile Every one has dslr

since introduction of entry-level of DSLR, nowadays more and more people has DSLR. I got myself a Canon 450d and developed photography as my main hobby.

I love photography since I purchased my first DSLR, but I got heavily discriminated by my other REAL photographer friends who hate me using AUTO mode on my Canon 450d. They said it is completely a waste of money and apparently I should be ashamed and should not even be called myself as a photographer.

I have also got other people who HATE people using Canon 7d (professional machine) when they are still beginner of photography. It is said they just wanted to show off their camera and can not manage the machine.

What do you think about more and more people now have DSLR?

I guess who cares what other people have. As long as you have what makes you happy that is really all that matters.

At least it keeps them off the streets. Wait, no maybe it doesn't.

As for shooting on auto, nothing wrong with it. Now if you know how to shoot on manual, yet choose to shoot on auto, that may give you a little more credibility. Maybe.

Okay.

There are a lot of snobbish photographers around the place.

Using AUTO on a DSLR and especially a 7D may not be using the camera to its full potential, but it's really only silly if you aren't looking to improve yourself; take it as a learning step. Then progess to P, AV/TV and then Manual finally.

In the end of the day it boils down to what you care about.

Who cares what anyone thinks. I've had people look down on me because I choose to shoot with an Olympus and "gasp" not a Nikon.
If I am in doubt if the correct exposure and dont have time to adjust I also use auto. Hmmm, camera companies spent millions to figure out how to make an auto button and most do pretty well. I figure there is a REASON they did that and not just because no one knows how to shoot in manual

In my mind, why drop $1800 (or $2700) on a semi-pro piece of kit and not at least try to learn how to use it to its full potential? But As long as you're working on improving yourself at an appropriate pace, I don't think there's any reason to accept such snobbery

I say always strive for improvement. You have to have the equipment to learn how to use it. If you want to shoot Auto that's your thing, but its more fun and rewarding once you learn how to shoot on M and make artistic decisions and really take a stunning photo. On auto you just may not quite get that pic.

I've seen folks in the DC area with WAAAAAY "better" cameras than mine and their pics are, shall we say, in need of some help. Now keep in mind that is MY opinion.

Also, Nikon and Canon have done a GREAt job marketing, so I say who really cares what your neighbor has. Frankly I LOVE when someone with the Canon Mark II asks me whats wrong with their camera. My neighbor even returned her Canon and bought Nikon...LOL
