Slow down and think about the photo before you even put the camera to your eye.

"Forget" the camera at home every once in a while so that you can actually be "there."

Don't be afraid of your camera and its capabilities. Play with various settings and see what they do. You only learn by doing things wrong a few times.

I would say dont get caught up in the hype especially with numbers be it bit depth, mega pixels, focal lengths and so on just be true to your self and the original reason you started with your photography.

I am relatively new to digital photography. It took my husband years to convince me that digital is the way to go. I think he got cheesed off with the cost of prints lol! I am old school and my old beaten up Zenith still takes wonderful photos.

Even though someone might have only just recently bought their first DSLR doesn't necessarily mean they are not familiar with photographic techniques.

Composition skills are most important. Heck my sister is a wizz at selling. She could convince the eskimos to buy snow but give her a camera no matter how basic and your likely to become decapitated! Some people just havent got the "eye" for photography.

I feel if you have a natural talent for photography then all other "techniques" can be easily learnt. Why not use your skills and make a few quid in the process?

If i could tell a new photographer one new thing it would be....

dont believe people when they tell you that doing a shoot is easy to do, because its NOT.
there is nothing easy about photography. you may have the "eye" for it but without the rest of the knowledge the "eye" wont mean much

My advice: Listen to everything in this thread. Well, except for this post.

(Hey, I could have been serious, but everyone else is doing such a great job...)

Photoshop does not fix everything. Do good work behind the lens first.

And its the photographer not the camera. Tiger didn't become great because of his golf clubs.
