Default Help needed ASAP

I just bought a 3 party flash for my sony A200. Its a manual flash and came with the hotshoe bracket to fit my sony. I used it last night and I noticed that when it fires so does the built in flash fire too. Is this correct or do I need to do some thing with my camera ?

You may need to set the camera to manual flash mode from the menus. Otherwise if you want flash the pop-up flash will appear.

Not sure how many experienced Sony users we have here - I certainly don't know the answer as a Canon user.

You might want to consider asking on dyxum.com or on the Amateur Photographer forums. I know there are some very knowledgable chaps there. Might be worth doing a search for similar threads that might have the answer you need already.

When you say "hotshoe bracket", do you mean a hotshoe adapter (ISO -> Minolta)? Or a flash bracket, where the flash is held up over the camera, and the hotshoe of the flash is attached to the hotshoe of the camera by a cord?

And what I'm curious about is if the hotshoe is attached to the adapter, or the cord, how can the pop-up be popping up, as it were?

Silly me I forgot to turn the flash off... It was as simple as that. Was soo excited in having a new flash that I thought I'd just have to stick in on top and away I'd go.
