Thumbs down Legal Issues in England Again!

I hate to bring this up, but I saw it on Sunday morning and have just found a snippet on the BBC website:

BBC News - BBC photographer on being stopped by police

BBC Photographer was stopped for photographing the sunset at St. Paul's Cathedral in London.

It's starting to happen all to often if you ask me.

Until there is a big enough push back...its going to get worse as most people look at it from the standpoint of "well it doesnt affect me, so why should I care"...just the attitude the govt counts on...

A bit different I know, but police dragged my next door neighbour off and charged him with harrassment for chasing two youths off his drive who he found looking through his tools in his garage. The youths complained he was scaring them!

"Stop being silly"

Or, as Jeremy Clarkson put it last night:

"Oh, officer, so I suppose you've found my television then?"
(You had to be there)

This kind of thing has gotten out of hand and luckily isn't an issue here in Canada. The British seem VERY touchy about it. A friend of mine and I are planning a trip down to NYC for the spring and we're going to be treating it as a photo expedition: Let's hope the nice people from NYPD don't mind.

You will be fine in NYC. I have just returned and had no problems from NYPD. Some of them even suggested places to visit off track shall we say. One of them even let me take a portrait shot of him.

I have been to Ottawa as well and people don't care, the way it should be. Enjoy the trip!

Leave your tripod in your room brother. Many spots from grand central to most indoor monuments are all "tripod non-grata" This includes any major rail station on the east coast, some areas of central park, liberty island etc etc. Here in the Baltimore and DC areas a tripod seems to be a sure sign of a terrorist doing reconnaissance. What's really screwy is that not a single one of these areas has a problem with a monopod as long as it's placed on your foot instead of the ground.
