I recently bought a new camera but I haven't really gotten a chance to use it and get to know it the way I'd like to. It's my first DSLR so I've spent my time reading rather than doing. Now that I've done all the reading, I'm ready to try it out but winter just hit and I seem to have lost inspiration due to the winter blahs (ie. it's always grey and dull outside it seems). Anyone have any inspirational ideas to get my creative juices flowing?
Thanks in advance! |

What about taking photos of Christmas trees and christmas decorations? I can't wait to get our tree up just to take some sparkly, glittery shots. Candle light makes awesome photos too. Just because its grey and miserable outside doesn't mean you can't take great shots just look closer to home.

You live in Canada and you're asking for inspiration?!
Im just shooting the stuff i shot in the summer really - my daughter, friends, family, outdoors stuff...just because the sky is grey shouldn't stop you finding something to shoot! I love history and old buildings etc so been skulking round churches and cemetaries and historic buildings a lot lately

This is exactly the problem i've been having recently. The weather in Glasgow has been rain, rain, rain recently and my poor little D60 wouldn't be able to handle it but the weather has turned frosty over the past couple of days so hopefully i'll be able to get out and get some nice, frosty, wintery shots at some point.

Sunny winter days can be great for colors -- blue skies, white snow, dark trees... everything seems to be more colorful when it's surrounded by snow!
Look for snowflakes landing on interesting objects, and try some macros (or just close-ups). Look for light shining through trees, making interesting shadows on the ground. Those are a few ideas -- give 'em a try!

Why should some cold overcast days stop you from trying out your new toy? I know they have't stopped me yet! Consider dressing up for the cold weather and get some pics outside with some great cloud movement to really enhance you're subject.

I still go out and shoot. But if you feel you may lose body parts to the cold, take some indoor shots. Work with different lighting. Fruit in a bowl, in the fridge, glass of wine with candlelight, etc. That's one of the joys of photography. Seeing things all over again as if it were for the first time. Have at it!
