Default Got Gloves?

Ok Folks, share your warmth with me!

Just interested in finding out how those of you in colder climates keep the old hands and fingers warm in the winter when you're out with the camera. Only the rain keeps me indoors since I don't have a waterproof camera, but being out in windchill and icy temperatures can be tough on the old digits.

So what fancy glove-wear do any of you use to stay warm to reduce the "gloves off-gloves on" dance continuously?

This is my glove of choice for colder weather. REI Thermo Gloves/Mittens at REI.com. The mitten part folds back to allow you the dexterity to work with your finger tips and then folds back over when to keep them warm when you aren't using them. For shooting. I generally just slip my index finger out to press the shutter release. The pair that I have had thumbs that fold back too, which the current version don't seem to have, you may want to try them out first and see if you can work the controls while wearing them.

They look great, thanks so much for the link. I have an REI near me, I'll have to take a trip there soon & try some on.

I use military-spec inner gloves underneath a pair of heavy-duty ski gloves. The milspec gloves are super thing but crazy warm, so they dont impede on camera use (hell, I can type with them!) and they keep my hands warm. I wear them under my ski gloves and just take the ski gloves off to shoot, then they go back on. This is only for truly (-30C or colder) situations. Most of the time the MilSpecs are fine by themselves.

I use REI liners, which are very thin, and put full gloves on top of them if I'm not shooting for a while.

I use the "glove-mitten" and have done for years originally as a "shooters glove" now as a golfer in cold weather, same for photos.

Full finger cycling gloves......insulated on the back but the palm is thin for feel on the brakes and gears. Perfect for the camera but often in louder colours than photographers would be seen dead in! There are some that aren't day-glo yellow though.....available from any decent cycle shop.

I was just looking at some cycling gloves over the weekend thinking that they'd be good for shooting on those colder days. Good to know that they work well

Hi Everyone - thanks so much for all the added information. The military spec gloves sound great, & I'd never have thought of cycling gloves. I have some friends who use glove liners too and they really like them.
