Professional Photograpy Organizations?

I've had a long conversation with my attorney about gaining entrance to a location for a shoot. For this particular location there may not be any problem as he is a close friend of the President of the organization that owns the property and he thinks he can secure entrance and a signed property release. He also stated that for gaining entrance into some other areas it would open the door if I was a member of a national or international photography organization. Many years ago I was a member of one such group, but feel the focus of my shooting currently does not lend to joining this group now. The main focus of my shooting now is wildlife and nature. I am considering joining The North American Nature Photography Association, but would like some ideas from more experienced people. There appears to be many benefits for joining this association. One of the benefits is that the NANPA logo can be used on various items, such as presentation cards. The culture I live in puts much more emphasis on being part of these organizations than most areas back in the states.
If anyone is familiar with NANPA or other associations please give me your input or ideas. I guess my motives for joining one of the associations may be different than most, but if it will open areas that I cannot currently get into I have no problem doing this.
