People are defensive about things that they invest money into.

Photographers will spend a lot of money to get the body, lenses and flashes for their system. Since they are heavily invested in one brand, they will ignore many of the flaws in their system and choose to hate on other system users (We don't want cognitive dissonance, now do we?). However, they have not tried the other system because "trying" that system requires a new and separate investment, something they are unwilling to do.

So instead, they rationalize that the other systems is inferior to theirs. Anyone who uses that system must be inferior to them.

I'm the first to speak of the wonderful things that Canon do, but that said, I'd love a D3

The reason that I shoot Canon is that when I bought my 10D nearly 7 years ago it was the best on offer in my price range. Now that I have over $15,000 invested in various bits of Canon glass and other accessories, I'm staying with Canon.

The switch to Nikon (or any other "emerging" brand) would simply be too big a hit on the bank balance.

No, I do not. I find brand fanaticism to be an odd behavior.

Canon, Nikon, it's all good. However, we can all agree to laugh at them Sony/Pentax/Olympus users. LOL!

Just playin.

But yeah, I've encounted plenty of people that will say things like "So when are you going to graduate to Nikons?"

I don't care what you use.....but I will tell you Canon is better!

Just kidding.

Whatever works for you. Most people are very brand loyal. Mainly because the majority have invested heavily in that brand (in the case of DSLR). But, some people will say "Oh you know, Nikon has better ergonomics..." or vice versa type deal.

Don't matter what you use.

The end results is all that counts.

Same happened to Sony DSLR Cameras on a south african site.I do not agree with the fact that My brand of camera that i use is far worse then other brands.I do not care which brand camera anyone is using.I bought my camera becuase it is value for money. The package that i bought included the following.Sont Dslr A-200,Sony 18-700mm lens,Lithium battery and as a bonus Sony external flash. All that for R6000.00.It wouldnt be possiblle to get such a deal with Canon or Nikon brands.

If you like shooting macro in the field Canon is better.

I'm not kidding!

No other brand has a MP-E 65mm and I've never seen anything like the EOS-RETRO adaptor for any other brand either. They're very handy things and make life so much easier that having to use a manual aperture ring on the end of bellows.

For less than 1:1 pretty much any brand will do but for greater than 1:1 I wouldn't consider using anything else but Canon.

i second that
it all comes down to preference. although i use nikon i definately dont look down upon canon. when i first started looking into dslr cameras i was looking at canon and had it picked out and everything. then my wonderful husband did his own research as well between the two and he decided to go with the nikon (he had his personal reasons) but i didnt complain.

its the same like any other thing - pc vs. mac (both good but i have my own preferences)
or volkswagen vs. honda, bmw vs. mercedes
but all in all i prefer the audi r8 hehe
in anycase what im trying to say is that people have their own preferences and it doesnt mean one is necissarily better then the others - and for those who are so against the competiton i think should open their eyes to all the possibilities. its not like they OWN the company or something - then i would understand
