Well, I need some advice...
![]() So, my father just told us he would pay for a two-week trip to Israel, to visit the Holy Lands next year, which is totally cool, but now I am terribly vexed... I can see my self taking several thousand pictures(?) over two whole weeks especially since were going to Petra too(remember Indiana Jones 4?)...but what should I do, start collecting a shoebox full of Sd cards? buy a laptop/netbook and maybe an external hard drive? buy one of those photo download pieces like I have seen from Epson and DigitalFoci? My first thought is the laptop/netbook idea, but with all that International travel what if the computer gets lost/stolen/broken??? If I was still a naive NooB,(as a opposed to the less-naive but still clueless NooB I am now ...) I would be shooting in jpeg and could fit the whole two weeks onto my 8 and 16gb cards and not worry, but now that I am on the RAW bandwagon, that eats up a TON of card/HDD space, since I tend to always shoot full rez. on my D90...What would you guys do?? |

- get an external device such as Epson etc.
- get a netbook that you can remove the HD yourself (such as Acer AOD250) and put HD away . - get a DVD burner that can backup memory cards and mail the DVD to yourself. - get a notebook/netbook with eSata port and an eSata external HD. - zip photos and upload it to online storage services if fast internet is available. - buy more memory cards as you travel. - shoot films. Thief proof (I think).

That's my first bit of advice...wish I could follow it myself!
Second, what are your photography/travel/business considerations beyond the trip? Will a net book suit you well after the trip? Something for the wife to browse on while you hog the home machine, something to view pics on "instantly" on shoots, something to take on frequent travel or to work, etc, etc. There are other devices such as Joba/Digi/Epson/Foci little hard drive storage devices which are not dependent on a computer...160GB and up for $150 and up...(I had a nikon one..didn't use it enough to justify the cost). You can also use an ipod or other similar as portable storage..... For me, I use a laptop/netbook AND external drive...2 copies. My minimum acceptable on travel.
