Just be aware that this program is specifically for folks with busted Canons that are out of warranty, and no one knows how long Canon will continue doing it.

I'd recommend the K-X. By far and away, its the high ISO leader in class and probably the next class as well. Definitely the best entry level camera you can get and its cheaper than the competition. Plus, you can get the white storm trooper one

Best Deal:
You can get it with the 18-55mm and a 55-300mm kit to cover every focal length.$750 kit

I'd just get a Rebel XS or XSi, buy better glass before a better body.

If you're looking at the T1i maybe you might want to take a look at the XSI. I've read the T1i (15 megapixels) and the XSI (12 megapixels) use the same exact size sensor and the T1i is noisier with its 3 megapixes more crammed onto said same size sensor. My advice, go with an XSI and invest your money in a nice piece of glass like a EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM. That combo would rule! I currently do not have a dslr either but just between you and me, I'm saving up for a Pentax K-7.

Of course you would

I'd definitely see if you cant find a good deal on a D90 kit

That is probably what I would buy if I already had all the SLR glass I needed. Looks like and awesome kit.

Hey, I've always said I was weird. I never said I was unpredictable.

The only problem is that simply having the $1000 isn't enough to get one (sigh). It's back-ordered everywhere (it's the LX-3 all over again). And B&H and Adorama only list with the zoom kit lens, not the prime. And I'm a girl. I want the red one. Ok, maybe the white.

I own both. The noise level doesn't become an issue until you go higher than ISO1600 (check dpreview for reference). The LCD screen of the T1i is much nicer...brighter and has a higher resolution. You also get ISO3200 and 6400, and in "Auto ISO" mode, the ISO will go to 1600 instead of 800 on the XSi (nice when shooting with natural light in a dark room in Av mode).

Otherwise, I never use the video mode or auto-focus in liveview (always manual).
