Default Anyone cut their own mats?

Do you cut your own mats, or do you purchase pre-cut ?

We bought this system, with these accessories and a set of 3 books for just under US$1000.

We buy the 32"X40" mat boards and cut them down. I can then get the perfect size for whatever photo I'm matting.

I do all of the above. Its more work and takes some practice but you can customize your own work and it saves a TON of money in the long run.
I usually buy blank sheets in several sizes and then cut out my own middles.
I spent about $80 on my matt cutter. Logan and can do up to 32" matt. If and when I do anything bigger I have a hand held matt cutter which isnt quite so easy to deal with!

I'm lazy - I buy frames with mounts the size I want or get prints made to the size of the mounts in the frames I have. I get a shop to do the prints too.

Might put more effort into it one of these days....

Yes, I cut my own. I use a Logan cutting system that lets me cut up to 24".
I can buy a full sheet of mat board at Michael's for less than they charge to cut a single 8x10.

I actually have a mat cutter, but have never taken it out of the box. In the 20,000+ photos I've shot this year, I may have printed 4...and that was only for a monthly contest. I have no need for prints.

But, a friend of mine is opening a crafty shop, and is looking for a few prints to sell in her shop...might have to figure it out to save money on framing (or order pre-cut mats).

Oh yes, I think we call them mounts here! I get mine from Picture Frames, Picture Framing :: Picture Frame Express with my frames, the prices are really reasonable and the frames are great quality.
