I'm still waiting on my subscription to Outdoor Photographer to come in the mail. I should get my first issue in the next few weeks here. I've taken a look at a lot of photography related magazines at the bookstore. My impression after thumbing through a lot of them over the past several months is 90% are junk. They tend to have way too many adds and little content. What content they do have could be easily discovered online for free.

Thanks for all the replies. I went to the local book store this weekend and got Outdoor Photographer and Digital Photo Pro. I just finished going through Outdoor Photographer and enjoyed it, so I subscribed to it as well as bought some back issues from this year. Haven't gone through Digital Photo Pro yet, but I'm not expecting to subscribe to it.

I still want to find Popular Photography. Don't they have back issues?

So I bought one of the Popular Photography magazines (digitally) was I didn't like it at all. The information given seemed WAY too simple (I kept thinking "duh" when reading it) and it explained way too much basic technical detail (shutter speed and aperture for example) instead of the thought process of how shots were taken. I was also lucky enough to have chosen the issue with an article about Ian Plant, who also had an article in Outdoor Photographer. I couldn't believe how different the two articles were, for the reasons stated above.

I'm about half way through Digital Photo Pro, and I'm enjoying it more than I expected. Even though the article about full frame cameras "taking over the world" doesn't apply to me, I found it interesting. Now I'm only wondering if I should go with Digital Photo Pro or Digital Photo. Am I right in assuming that Digital Photo is more aimed towards hobbyists instead of people who have photography as a career?
