Canon G11 price rant!!

Grrrrr why the heck is it $499.94 at Amazon.com and £439.00 Amazon UK FOR THE SAME THING!!! I'm fed up of being ripped off! My hubby said he's not paying as its too expensive at the moment and I want it for Christmas! Waaaaahhh. No fair!

This has happened before with other products not necessarily photography equipment but it seems everything over your side of the pond is cheaper. I remember a few years ago trying to get hold of a Little Tykes kitchen for my little girl and it was some ridiculous low price like $70 over there and £150 over here for exactly the same thing!

Everything is like this for the UK. Even within the country

Take for example:
Dinner, here, at a nice restaurant is usually about $50/person. Same kind of restaurant, in the UK: £50/person. In this case, it's an internal system: theres no exchange rate involved. Sadly, the world has taken to keeping the trend even with the exchange rate.

Can you just buy it from the American website? Or do they not let you do that? You could also try overstock.com they might have it, they usually have prices comparable to Amazon.

Internet sales in the USA are free of sales tax if shipped out of state. When it arrives in the UK, you will need to add 17%
The UK also has import duty of 5% on digital cameras

Then add shipping and insurance... .

And then add the RIPOFF Britain mentality of retailers... and there you have your price difference

Stuff has always been cheaper in the USA, but always remember the hidden costs of getting it to your door

Thanks for the feedback! I'm still working on hubby! I have noticed during searches that the price is coming down here s l o w l y. I've even offered to go halfzies. My husband is erring to the G9 (second hand) as he thinks there is not much difference between the G9 and G11 apart from it being a newer model. The G10 was a bit of a damp squib by all accounts or so I am led to believe.
