Fabric for Backdrop

Would like ideas for what black fabric makes a good backdrop for photographs. Have tried a black sheet - comes out charcoal and yuk, also black velour and comes out with a sheen that I do not want for some things. I am a beginner so any help would be appreciated.

You can probably get them cheaper look for black muslin sheeting this seems to be the preferred option on DIY cheap home ones

depends how big you want it... but Velvet is by far the best... its expensive tho'.
maybe you just need to control your light more.
i just use a piece of black caleco, and control the light so little or none falls onto the backdrop.. gets it very dark, and then photoshop does the rest.

in saying that.
i just bought a portable backdrop stand and a roll of paper instead....

Black paper works. Black muslin works. Any non-reflective black fabric works. That said, with a bit of knowledge about light, you can turn any backdrop, including a white one to pure black in camera.
