Default todays vent

Did a shoot with a doctors family. The shots turned out fantastic. Then she decides she doesnt want to puchase any she wanst them ALL on a cd for a whopping 30 bucks.
I explain that I will normally sell a cd with low resolution images with the contents of only the puchased images. AND it clearly states that on the web site as well as in my contract.

I made the mistake of agreeing to give her a cd with the low resolution images on it (I'm an idiot sometimes) we have this big long conversation about what low resloution means and explain to her that altho they can be viewed on a pc, they wont be of good enough quality to print. She agrees.

So today she wants me to consider exchanging it for a high resolution cd at no extra charge becasue they were disapointed with the quality!! My response was "I hope you can understand my dilema, That would be like going and buying a brand SUV but insisting on only paying for the spare tire"

We shall see................

I so wanted to refer to her husband being a doctor and having a surgey done but only paying for one piece of it but was trying to be diplomatic.

Hey, I would have...put it in terms they can understand, ya know? You can still be nice about it, but make it hit home.

People like this are the main reason why I won't do portraits for people if money is exchanged. People tend to have really unrealistic expectations of just how much money and time investment it takes to be a professional photographer.

I think it stems from the fact that anyone now can go out and purchase a point and shoot camera pointing it at someone and pressing the shutter; thinking that's all it takes to make an image.

Ya know, I really try to steer away from doing them but tims are tough and the money is usually pretty good.Heck I have even agred to do a couple of weddings which is something I really despise doing. But again, that extra couple of grand will be coming in handy
I would so much rather go hiking at 3 am in a swamp filled with hungry gators than do portraits.
More often than not my customers are pretty good.
Its like our toy drive for the kids. (i'm on the board for that) we get requests to deliver to homes that are well worth a half a million (including this doctors house) that chaps my hide just as much if not a thousand times more because it takes away from the kids who realy do need our help

Oh and get this, when she came to pick up her book and CD yesterday she insisted she only had a remaing balance of $35 for the rest of her deal. I told her no, you owe me 70. I finally just said just give me what you have and we'll call it even. Then after all that she send me an email realizing she shorted me but still wants me to give her a new cd

i "almost" had this once, a woman asked my rates.
i told her "$XX per hour sitting fee plus prints"

her response
"i'll just pay the hourly fee... and you can just give me a CD... i'll print them myself"

*cough*

...i hope she wakes up a bit.

Why include a print fee? The customer is right they CAN print them themselves and probably end up with a quality that THEY are happy with.

Just raise your sitting fee to reflect the amount you'd be out for the lack of prints. The customer won't know the difference, you make the same money and they're happy. In the end you want a happy customer, yes?
