I am need of some advice, please!
I have a Sony DSC H5 and a Gateway Desktop computer and I am having problems with the quality of my pictures when I save them to my computer. Recently I took some indoor portrait photos, on the LCD screen on the camera the pictures look perfectly fine but when I save them to my computer and view them they are underexposed. I've noticed a lot of my photos are like this, look great on camera but underexposed on the computer. I am not sure if there are some sort of settings on my computer screen I am adjust? If any one has any advice and has had similiar problems any input is greatly appreciated! ![]() Thanks, Carissa |

Are you shooting RAW or JPEG?
If you are shooting RAW, you need software to decode the RAW image into a something viewable (like a JPEG). Your camera has this software built in...when you take a RAW photo, it converts it to JPEG when displaying it on the screen. A lot of times the camera will bump the exposure or do some other funky stuff. Your computer does the same thing, but might not always produce the same JPEG as your camera does. I don't trust the LCD on my camera any more. Your best bet when shooting is to look at the histogram. It'll tell you whether you're too bright or too dark. |

The H5 doesnt support RAW, so it rules that out.
FOr starters, what kind of monitor are you using? CRTs and LCDs vary Check your monitor brightness. Most monitors display images slightly darker or lighter than the camera LCD, this is likely the case.

What program for viewing? If just "browsing", then calibrate the monitor.

Thank you everyone for your comments and suggestions. I am viewing with CRT screen, I hooked my camera up to my LCD tv and the pictures aren't nearly as under exposed as when viewing with my computer. I am going to try to adjust my LCD screen brightness and see if that helps any...and start looking at my histogram alot more. Thanks again so much!
