Default Las Vegas Trip - Should I bring my camera

Hey everyone. I'm going to Vegas for the week and I am trying to decide if I should bring my camera or not. Has anyone photographed around there while enjoying there time gambling, exploring, and all that good stuff. Do they have a problem with you bringing a camera into where you are gambling. Do they have a problem with you bringing a camera backpack in to where you are gambling, Any input or help would be helpful. I just dont want to get stuck far from my hotel with my camera and not be able to go in somewhere because I have a camera. I'm staying at the Golden Nugget.
Thanks a lot!
Dan

Which position would you rather find yourself in?
1. To have brought your camera and not used it
-or-
2. To have not brought it and wished you had.

Seems like a no-brainer to me...

Vegas at night would be awesome to photograph. So many lights...

I've run into a few instances lately where cameras weren't allowed. Most places don't care, but there are a few people that think what they have is secret, and that no one caries a camera phone :P

Last weekend, I got stopped going into a licquor store in Minneapolis. An employee stopped me (in a Halloween costume) and said "No bags! You have to leave it with us at the counter". I looked at him, looked at my wife, and said "There's $3000 in camera equipment in this bag, I'm not leaving it with a licquor store employee."

The only other time I've had a problem is in New York at some random store my wife and I walked into. The guy at the counter said "You have to check your bag". "It's expensive camera equipment" I said, showing him the contents. He said "No cameras either! You have to check it". My wife just looked at me and said "This store isn't worth it" and we left.

I have an issue with places like that. I realize theft is an issue, but asking someone to check their bag is like saying "You can trust me with your stuff, but I don't trust you with mine". Places like that aren't worth doing business with.

good call from both of you. I'm going to be bringing it. I'll just have to choose when and where to use it. Thanks. I'll post photos next week!

My wife and I spent a week in Vegas in early June...we're both avid photographers and we racked off about 900 shots. We shot in the buildings (most of which are spectacular), out on the street, did some local touring to Red Rock Canyon, Hoover Dam, and to Zion National Park in Utah. To say it's a plethora of photographic opportunities is an understatement. You'd be crazy not to take your camera...that's my two cents!

Take it from a Las Vegas local, you'll be greatly disappointed if you don't bring it! Besides the downtown area (where you are staying) There's the strip during the day, during the night is a given, Valley of fire, rd rock, Mt Charleston, Hoover Dam/Lake Mead, and if you can swing it you can make a long day trip up to Zion. Well worth it!!

Definitely bring the camera. Just be a little careful inside the casinos. Casino security gets upset if you photograph the gambling areas.

Good call! Just use your common sense and you should be ok. Don't plan on taking pictures of the gaming areas, including the sports pooks and you should be ok.

Definitely bring your camera!!! You will use it quite a lot. I have been there three times in the last three years and have so many photos! I only had a point-and-shoot then. This time I will be going in January and am excited that I have a DSLR to use!

The only places they won't let you take photos are in the casinos themselves (like around the tables and such) and in any shows. But photograph all you want of the hotel lobbies, the exteriors, the sites. You won't be disappointed if you take your camera. Plenty there to shoot.

Have fun!
