Actually, not too easy to answer because at one time or another, I've used them all as well as Picasa. I chose Photoshop because I use it the most and in that category I use CS3 and occasionally Elements, but not Lightroom which I don't have.

Should've included Lightroom
![]() I find Lightroom to be good for 98% of my photos. I only use PSE when I want to do something a little more complex. Picasa was nice too, but it's nothing compared to Lightroom. Ironically, I have a free version of Paintshop Pro X, but don't use it. |

Yep, definitely should've included Lightroom (and maybe Aperture and iPhoto as well).
In any case, I mainly use Lightroom with the Nik plugins and I also use Photoshop.

The only reason why someone would use GIMP is that it's free shareware, whereas Photoshop would cost you at least $495.00. Sure photoshop has more bells and whistles, it's what the industry standard is set to. If I sent an editor a GIMP file, they wouldn't take me seriously as a photographer.

You definitely got that right. Having learned on Gimp (and not being a journalist), it works just fine for me.
