I am not sure what part of the city you are referring to, but you should definitely bring your tripod. Get out of the touristy areas and you won't have a problem.
I also like having a UWA lens, because sometimes the roads aren't wide enough to get as far away from your subject as you need to be to get the entire building in frame.

Even in the touristy areas when i was there the other month i would say it wasn't overly busy - less so than London - and if you're of the mindset then you'll be able to set your tripod up....
