Default Weekly Poll: Do you sell your photographs?

You might not consider yourself a professional, but that doesn't mean you can't sell your photographs.

How many people here sell their photographs? Would you care to tell us how you got to that point? Were you approached or did you take a proactive approach and actively get your photos out there? Or do you do stock photography, and what do you think of that?

Let's hear about your experiences and whether or not you've actually sold your photos.

hmm well lets see , i try to sell my photos, i have them for sale by me (cutting out the middle man)on my website gallery.
I also sell them on Deviant Art and just recently i have sold them on RedBubble

Deviant art is a hard place to sell and its getting worse unless you are "Miss prom queen" but i have sold 11 peices of work there .. which doesnt add up to much but pays for my subscription RedBubble i have just joined a great friendly place ( first sold piece 2 days ago and hopefully wont be the last) and simlar to what Deviant art was 6 years ago... and i see that a few of the prom queens from DA are migration to RedBubble .. but its a free world...
and my website has brought in a few sales.. some for prints and some for webdisplay sooo im ok.. i wish i was better... but it seams my work is not all that sell able.. but i will keep striving

I also do Stock at varius places... the 2 sites i do best at and have been paid on are ShutterStock and iStockPhoto

Completely local word-of-mouth look-and-buy, there is a small market with potential. One Blue Ribbon First Prize so far in a flower competition, abstract. The printed book (recently explored by wood) is a promising possibility as well, after Winter.

I've considered trying to submit a few things to iStockPhoto and ShutterStock, but am afraid of taking that step - mostly because I know the criteria is so strict, and there's so much out there right now that's so much better than what I have, I don't know it'd really do me any good. I don't think I have anything that'd be good enough to submit.

Okay, and that whole "fear of rejection" thing.

Ha that's if anyone would buy my work!

I agree about the "prom queens" comment, you're either well known or never known...

I've had a friend who's had people contact him about some of his shots though, and he's ended up published. Which I think is ace.

I sold one shot on some website... turns out it was to a mate... [Vinny - you rock] it was a nice confidence boost... i'd love to sell stuff... heck, wouldn't we all? - what do you do for a job, oh, I just take photos ...yes please! - I dunno... Maybe i'm a dreamer, but you never know till you try hey...

incidentally - this is the shot I sold... he wanted to feel like he was a "Londoner"

London Eye by night (duh!)

I've sold 1.5 of my shots. 1 was to one of my professors who wanted to show off that we beat a school she used to teach at. The other is a half partly because it's a future sale that I know will happen, and partly because it's a Christmas present from my girlfriend to her brother that I won't get money for unless she forces me to take it.

I'm all for selling my stuff. My big problem is that most of what I shot is Winthrop athletics and I'm pretty sure they don't want me selling it. Not that I've checked or anything, but with everywhere wanting a model release...

Well, I will say yes simply because.. my photos are for sale. That doesn't mean anyone buys them besides my grandma! XD

Nope, I don't try to sell or have a desire to sell. I just take my shots for me and to share with family and friends. I don't think anyone would buy them anyway!
