100 things I have learned about photography.
1. Just because someone has an expensive camera doesn’t mean that they’re a good photographer.
2. Always shoot in RAW. Always.
3. Prime lenses help you learn to be a better photographer.
4. Photo editing is an art in itself
5. The rule of thirds works 99% of the time.
6. Macro photography isn’t for everybody.
7. UV filters work just as well as lens caps.
8. Go outside and shoot photos rather than spending hours a day on photography forums.
9. Capture the beauty in the mundane and you have a winning photograph.
10. Film isn’t better than digital.
11. Digital isn’t better than film.
12. There is no “magic” camera or lens.
13. Better lenses don’t give you better photos.
14. Spend less time looking at other people’s work and more time shooting your own.
15. Don’t take your DSLR to parties.

Good list! I especially like 31. A point-and-shoot is still a camera. So often I hear people apologizing beacuse, "I only have _____ point-and-shoot camera and it's crappy and bla bla bla." If you can take a good photo with it, so what?? Some of my favorite photos I've taken came from my point-and-shoot.

Some salient points there, in fact most of them (I haven't had any evidence of girls 'digging' photographers, but perhaps that's because although I take photo's, I don't consider myself a photographer - yet).

I like 31 too - though I'm guilty as charged of talking my P&S down. Having said that, it's a respectable 6MP which gives me an image bigger than I can display at 1:1 on my PC, and my (daughter's) DSLR can't even begin to compete at Macro pictures, unless I go out and buy a dedicated lens that costs more than my P&S did.

I also like 70 - living in Sydney, I see tourists walking around every day, and every last one of them has got a DSLR round their neck these days. However, just like me, that doesn't make them photographers... I bet most of them don't know what any of the settings other than 'Auto' actually do.

More than anything, I like the general message - "don't sit at your computer talking about it, get out and actually do it. The more you do it, the better you'll get. But don't forget - there are other things in life, like family and friends - don't let your camera become a substitute."
