Default Always lock down your flash head

Was at a family dinner last night. Had my camera sitting on the floor (out of the way) beside me. My 20 month old grandaughter grabs the camera by the speedlite and "hands it to me". Yup, there she was standing in front of me with a gripped 50D, 24-70L and speedlite dangling a couple feet off the ground and she was hanging onto it by the flash unit.
Strong kid because that setup is not light weight.

That's my story,,,,

Awwww she probably thought she was doing the right thing! Bless her little baby heart. I once didn't do up my camera bag properly so I dropped 2 lenses on the pavement.

exactly, cute but scary at the same time..
its just like when they hand you the old piece of cheese toast they found under the couch and have been enjoying, so you too can enjoy a taste.
at least you now know she likes you.

I did the exact same thing one time.
Wont make that mistake again.
I guess I should just feel lucky only 1 lens hit the ground and the only major damage was to the UV Lens

This is not good. Ever. :-(

The worst thing about my situation was it was the first time I photographed a wedding!! I was in such a hurry to get to the ceremony (after taking photos of her getting ready at home) and capture the bride coming out of the car. My camera bag is like a backpack with zip all the way round. As soon as I picked it up the zip undid all the way round and low and behold a nightmare unfolded before my eyes!

Fortunately, my lenses were very robust and bounced well. Phew!
