Default What's on your Thanksgiving menu?

Thanksgiving Shopping List (by -Nicole-)

Thanksgiving is coming up for those who celebrate. Being American, I take my celebration over here, and still make a full Thanksgiving dinner. It seems like a bit of a heavy meal (considering it's well into spring), but I can't help it So, I've got my shopping list, and tonight I will go grocery shopping.

My menu for tomorrow is:
  • Turkey
  • Broccoli
  • Cranberry & Pecan Stuffing
  • Bread Rolls
  • Potato Dumplings (just like my great-aunt used to make)
And for dessert:
  • Either molasses cookies in vanilla ice cream OR
  • Some sort of pie... possibly apple with vanilla ice cream, or maybe cherry if I can find some cherries...
So, what's on your Thanksgiving menu? (And will you be photographing it? )

You're early Nicole.

I'm not 100% sure what's all on the menu, but I know it'll include turkey, pumpkin pie, baked and/or mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, rolls, and possibly potato salad and/or coleslaw. Odds are that there will be many deserts as well.

Every year my mother and grandma plan a sizable dinner for the whole family. Then my grandma ends up making even more than what was planned. It's not uncommon to arrive at her house to find she's cooked an additional turkey or like last year a ham. As well as having way to many pies, breads (pumpkin, banana and the like), cookies, etc. And since half of the family usually brings something (usually deserts) that only adds to the problem.

It's all good food too. Well except the potatoes, they're almost never done on time and aren't really that good. Half the time my grandma doesn't even start baking them till we arrive. She makes great deserts though.

Anyways, it's generally a given that only ¼ to ¾ of the family will show up. So that means left overs, lots of left overs. Not that left overs aren't good, 'cause they are the first go round. Left overs of left overs of left overs however are never good.

No idea if I'll be photographing any of it, but if I do I'll be sure to share.

Hope everybody has a happy Thanksgiving.

Woodett will cook up the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. We'll eat early, and then its off to work for me.

Sucks being in the newspaper business.

There should be a law against anyone even thinking of reading a newspaper on holidays.

Oh yeah, the best part is the leftovers. Turkey, stuffing and cranberry sandwiches are great. But the best are dumplings that have been baked the previous day and you slice them up and fry them in a little bit of butter until they're all nice and crisp on the outside and potato-y goodness on the inside. They're totally worth the work that goes into them.

As a side note, my grocery shopping was nearly disastrous when I went to the first grocery store and not only did they think that I was nuts for asking if they had any turkey breasts (apparently not until December, so I bought a full frozen turkey), but they looked at me like I had an arm growing out of my head when I couldn't find cranberries. Thankfully the other grocery store had some frozen ones in stock. Tragedy avoided lol

Default Turkey on the Grill

Nicole: Sorry to burst your bubble about being the first to post a photo of Thanksgiving dinner. Here is a pic of the turkey I did the other night on the grill. My wife and I had ours early because we are going to some friends for dinner on Thursday.

Turkey

Darn! Oh well Firemaine, hope the turkey was good Enjoy your thanksgiving dinners! Soon I can start the cooking for mine.

Marmalade, that sounds very good. Asparagus is really good, but I'm the only one eating dinner tonight who likes it And the bourbon pecan pies also sound really good. I've never made a pecan pie, but that sounds like a good recipe.
