Default Photo Releases

Not sure where I wanted to post this. The subject has sprouted up in a couple different threads. The link here covers Models releases and Property releases.
There is plenty of interesting reading to be found here. It pretty much narrows down the laws covering whom, what or where you can photo. But as we all know, the law can be iffy at times.

This can also fall under Nicole's thread on Photographers Rights. So spread it around.

That's some good reading, and it covers a lot of very valid points in a thorough and understandable matter. Even the point that the release may not be valid without some form of compensation to the person being photographed. That's something that can easily be overlooked if you're not familiar with releases, etc

This topic came up just this morning in the portraiture class I'm taking. It looks like the resource you posted here would have answered many of our questions. Thanks!

We have a copyright attorney taking the class, too. He and the instructor were pretty much in line with what Dan Heller is saying.

I came across another link on this subject today that I thought would be pretty helpful to people here. The points in this are fairly universal because most go to the idea of defamation and privacy, which are found in most legal jurisdictions. The article is from Apogee Photo Magazine and is called: Model Releases, a Primer. It basically covers what situations you need a model release in.

What about a release if say you are allowing someone to use your images for a website such as your local Chamber of Commerce in which they will be posting your pictures and giving you credit.
