Default Old Studio Lights

A friend's father is a retired photorapher and he was getting rid of old equipment that I said I would take off his hands - it was free.

What I got was a pair of bowen monolites x200 with stands, a softbox, few umbrellas, portriate stools, and a few backgrounds - not too bad for free equipment.

Now I was playing around with the monolights but not to sure on how to work them. They only came with the power cord, when I turn them on it works and I can test fire them but I think I need a sync cable to work with my camera (canon 50D), right?

Do they even sell the cables for these monolights anymore and should I bother with these lights at all? Would it be better to just purchase newer lights?

I never worked with studio lighting before so please forgive me for the newbe questions.

Try "google-ing" Bowen Monolite X200. I tried, briefly, and did get a few results back. Even if you can't get the lights going, the rest of the equipment is well worth the price.

You probably just need a sync cable of sorts. If you post an image of the connections perhaps we can help.

Most equipment I have worked with so far used a standard 6.35mm to PC snyc cable (something like this).

Basically the 6.35mm input looks like a big hole on your strobe

Absolutely! Bowen makes good stuff. I'd look into a set of CyberSync triggers, or just buy a sync cord for a few bucks.
