Default Monitor Calibration Spyder 3 elite

I have a normal LCD monitor for my computer. I currently have my lab color correct my photos, but think I could save some money and do it myself. Is it worth getting the spyder 3elite. Anyone else use this product?

I use a Spyder Elite Pro 3 for my monitor. You should calibrate your monitor if you do very much serious post processing.

Do these calibrators work on laptop screens?

All you need to do if you have a dual monitor setup is boot your machine with only one of the monitors turned on. Calibrate the monitor and save the profile. Then turn your computer off and power up the monitor you didn't calibrate and turn off the one you just did. Calibrate your 2nd monitor and save the profile. Then turn your other monitor on set your OS to extend the desktop to the first monitor and load the correct profile for each of your monitors.

At least that's what I did when I calibrated both my monitors with a tool that only supported one.

I really don't know a lot about monitor profiles and such. I'm more of a software nerd than a hardware nerd, so can anyone tell me if color calibration would be able to be of use if I calibrated on a dual boot machine? What I mean is, if I make a profile in Windows, is it possible to use that to also have correct settings in Linux?

Although I believe the profile would be "correct", I don't think Linux will read a profile written for windows. And I don't know if there is a linuxed base program for using standard hardware calibrators...
