Default Places to shoot, NY/Boston?

Hey everybody,

I heading out on a trip to New York and Boston over for the Columbus holiday weekend and I plan to bring my camera to get some photos. Can anyone suggest some good spots to hit?

Thanks!

Tim

Are you looking for the obvious or the off the beaten path stuff ??

Cuz frankly, both cities are amazing to walk through with a camera, between the architecture and the people you should never be at a loss.

In NY I recommend everything between Battery Park and 125th St.

If you are only there for a day, then walk the Freedom Trail and shoot everything, or just hang around Fanieul Hall. You could spend a month of Sundays shooting the buildings in Boston, and still not get everything.

Thanks for ideas.

I'll be in each city for a couple days each, so it'll be tough to cover alot. As teedlepeep and rosserx mentioned, opprtunities abound in both places. Hopefully I can take advantage of all of them and get some photos out of it.

Thanks,

Tim

Oh good lord, if you can't find something to photograph in Boston or NY, you really need your eyes checked.

Unless you're flying between the places, don't ignore the trip! The leaves are just starting to turn. It might be worth a short detour into Orange or Rockland Counties, western Connecticut or mid-Massachusetts to get some nice landscape shots. At the very least, stay off 95 and take the Merritt Parkway. Alternatively, sick to the shoreline and stop for lunch in a scenic spot like Old Lyme or Mystic Seaport. Warning: do not take telephoto pictures of the submarine construction building in Groton. They hate that.

As for the cities themselves, I agree with what others have said -- if you can't find stuff to photograph there you've got a problem. If you've got more specific interests and want to narrow it down, I can help with that for New York. For example, the graveyard at Trinity Church (at the top of Wall Street) has some great old graves, including that of Alexander Hamilton. So that's a good one if you like cemetery photography. But if you prefer nature photography that doesn't help much (the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens or Central Park would be your main goals then unless you've got time to get out to Jamaica Bay),, which in turn doesn't help if people-watching is your thing, etc. etc.

lol...I was in both places last month.

The street performers are always good for a few photos:

Night photography in New York is always cool:

Times Square is a must at night:

And if you get bored of making your own art, you take photos of other people's art at the Met:
