Question Anyone having this issue?

So, I've taken the time to read the FAQs and find out how to post a photo in a forum message. I actually did post a photo last week using the html code from Flckr and it worked fine. For some reason I now can't post photos, when I preview my post the code shows up as text.

Because I'm a business analyst and have functional testing on the brain I did a few test cases. I tried the html from a different photo on Flckr and then tried with a photo on Picasa Web and neither worked. Is this happening to anyone else? Is there something that I'm missing? I looked for a forum for technical questions about the site thinking my question may be answered there, but didn't find one.

I'm a new DSLR owner and have just now gotten over being self conscious about posting my shots on this site. Seriously...it took me months before I posted or set up one of my photos as an avatar. I'm definitely not ready to retreat back to site lurker status, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you copying and pasting the code directly into your post, or are you trying to insert the code as a link or something using one of the links above the text box (such as the "Insert Image" tag) while composing your post? The Flickr code is set up to be directly pasted into your post without having to do anything else.

BBC code might work a little better here than HTML does.

Just copy the image's location (the image's! Not the page's location!) and paste it between [ IMG ] tags (no spaces). don't forget to close the tag! [/ IMG]

There's also a button above the posting area you can use: click then paste the image's url.

edit: I guess I could be wrong, considering te post above me (posted while I was writing this); HTML may be usable here. I'm just not used to it in a forum.

I posted the text directly into the post like this:

Bow and Water

Stupid intermittent issues! Of course it works now! That one was with html, now I'll try the BBC. Drumroll please...

[IMG]Boat and Building[/IMG]

Looks like I did the BBC wrong because my tags are showing (so embarrassing).

Thanks for the help!!!! I'll keep posting and trying the BBC, if I keep testing I figure I'll get the placement right.

HTML works fine in the forum. The only time you really need to use the IMG tags is if you are posting an image with a URL only. If you post the Flickr code into the IMG tags they will show, as seen in your second image.

All that being said, welcome to DPS! Hope to see more of your images soon. Love these shots BTW!

Got it, I'll continue to work with html as I post photos.

Thanks for the warm welcome and comment about my photos! I took these ones my second time out with my D40 so I'm really glad they turned out decently. I'm looking forward to becoming much more active on the site, I've got some serious learnin' to do!

Yes - we've enabled basic HTML across all areas so you can copy and paste code from most photo-sharing websites. If you've got a link to a post where it didn't work, one of the mods can take a look and see if we can figure it out. Sometimes people end up with a mix of HTML and BBCode, which doesn't always play nice.

Wulf,

Here's a link to the post where I was trying to add an image to my response. What does stand out is that it's in the Social Groups area. Even after it worked on this thread, I went back and tried again with no luck. So, no response there from me as of yet.

Thanks for your help.

I don't know if HTML works in the social groups postings. There is an IMG tag button in the controls for the message. If you go back to Flickr and click the image you are wanting to post, you'll find the photo's direct URL beneath the HTML code. Just copy that URL, click on the IMG tag button for the post, and paste the URL in the pop up. Click OK, and it will insert the tagged URL in the post.

Aha! I don't know about HTML in the social groups - I'll flag this for one of the site admins to look at.
