Hi all,
Two general questions: 1) What are some of the better stand alone devices for backing up digital photos? or 2) Has anyone gone the route of using an online service to back up their content? I would love to hear some of your experiences. Thanks, Stone |

I have a Drobo with four two Terabyte drives installed. Plus I have CDV's burnt of each assignments images.
Online service......no! There are pros and con's to online storage, but I want full control of what's happening to my images.

I use a single 1 TB drive, set to auto-backup EVERYTHING in one week intervals. It won't save the stuff from a housefire, but it'll stop a crashing hard drive, and if anything goes down while I'm here, I can just snatch the hard drive and bail.

I use a home server with an RAID 5 array and about 1.2TB of space in total. Also I backup everything on an external harddrive once a day.
Unsing online storage is cool for me, with that I can have access to my files from everywhere, even on my iPhone. I use Dropbox which is a very good service, but will be quite expensive for photos (50 gig cost 9,99$ a month) but 2 GB are free so you can sign up anyway and use it for whatever you like. |
