Default New kit

Finally my new kit has arrived. An upgrade from the 350D and 3 cheaper canon zoom lenses

The new stuff

Canon - 50D
28-135mm IS USM (kit)
70-200mm F4 L USM
50mm F1.8 II

A little late afternoon play and I am blown away by the quality of the L glass and the added advantage of the NIFTY FIFTY

I will post some shots over the weekend. The options now seem endless and I just want to shoot everything seeing that I understand so much more about DOF, RAW, Photoshop and loads of other stuff thanks to the nutty bunch at DPS

ONE THING: I have 2 camera backpacks and they struggle to hold the kits above (Mountainsmith & Lowe) Any ideas on a backpack that can take camera kit and other stuff?

NEW tag line: ALL THE GEAR AND NO IDEA!!

After getting my first L series lens I was impressed to say the least on my XTi body. Once I got my 5D Mark II then I really saw what L glass can be capable of and was sold.

Needless to say I am primarily interested in only L glass now except for the few lens that are not L series lens that have very good results such as the 100mm Macro and the 50mm F1.8.

I don't see much reason to spend a few hundred bucks on a lens that I know I'll end up wanting to upgrade in the future. That money could be better spent saved until I can afford to get a L series lens within that focal coverage I was looking for.

High quality lens will last you a long time so it's a worth while investment. Especially if you enjoy the hobby or profession so much.

Welcome to the L group empty your wallet now and step forward.

On the bag - it depends what you need - backback, other?

I've got a Domke f6 which will hold what you have listed with room for a flash and 'accessories', and my Domke f2 which will carry:

2 x 40D Bodies, both with grips
50mm 1.4
85mm 1.8
24-70mm 2.8
17-35mm 2.8-3.5
70-200 4
530 EXII
CP-4 Battery pack
430 EX
set of Skyport triggers (1 transmitter, three receivers)
a few modifiers
Spare Batteries
CF Cards
Stofens
Gels

I've also got a LowePro backpack (Can't remember the model) which holds all the above, plus a 15" MacBook Pro, MBP Power supply, battery charger, Airport Express and room for more. This one is for when I'm traveling.

Oh, and when loaded the last two are bl**dy heavy!!!

the mountainsmith has a laptop section which I need, but the camera area is much worse than it appears in pictures. The 70-200 is the problem, it is about 1 inch to long for both bags, regardless of the config. Bloody annoying.

I have readjusted the base of the MS as it is the best bet, but it is not perfect.

This is the one I've got:

Lowepro - CompuTrekker AW

It will *easily* take the 70-200 f/4L (and everything else in my previous post)

The CompuTrekker Plus fits a 17" laptop, but I didn't need that.
