I like the extra control from post processing, and I like having the ability to have a color version. In camera just limits my options later..

This is what I do. Since a friend of mine ages ago said to me to "always shoot in colour" because then you have the option. And that's true. I do enjoy playing about with the settings in Photoshop though when converting the raw file. Fun to experiment and you and learn more about processing.

I guess its better to have the option to go B&W than to have just one form of the picture. Guess I will have to learn how to do more in post...

My general thought is the more you can do in-camera and not PP, the better!

Well, back with film, I had all the chemicals and tools to process B+W film, so I shot in that. When I started shooting in digital, I shot in color and changed to B+W in post just because I wanted to be able to go back. Now, even shooting in RAW, I shoot in color. The B+W switch is a menu option, and it's just more work than it's worth IMO. I shoot through the viewfinder, which is in color no matter what.

Back in the film days, I had to imagine the color in the viewfinder translating to black and white on paper... it's no different today

I do it in camera because my camera does save the original and the altered version. The other reason is I am also a post production novice and everything takes me 4 times as long in post production.

Default Post Production

Like others here, I do my B&W work post production, usually in Lightroom. I like the flexibility to have both a color and a black and white version of a shot.

I'm a little of both, but my XTi has in camera B&W filters that do a really good job - so I do shoot B&W often in the camera because I like the results.

Often, if I'm not sure, I'll shoot b&w in camera while it's set on RAW. Canon s/w recognizes my cameras settings in the Raw file so I can to a jpg conversion on all my b&w shots and then resaturate them to check for color. That way I get the filtered in camera conversion and a color copy.

Post-Processing 100% for sure. It just gives a lot more flexabilty, and more control over what type of a black and white shot you want. Also, in the end, if it turns out it doesnt look that great in black and white you can always undo it.
