Default omg omg omg

yaaay ok i think im getting a tad too excited over something thats not a big deal anyways.
so i have yet another wedding to attend this saturday and its a good friend of my husbands. so they have their own photographer but said i can do the shots too. but but but i have no intention of interfeering with the hired photog - im just going to be on the sidelines getting those candid moments.
im kind of nervous because ive NEVER EVER done anything to do with a wedding but i totally want my business to take me there one day. so im nervous because im SHY. lots of people know me there but dont know ive entered into the world of photography on such a serious level and now im thinking they are going to look at me weird. ugh!!

so really what im getting to is - does anyone have good tips on getting over those weird jitters????

ps. im taking my sb600 and 18-105mm since i dont have that much loved 70-200mm yet. i thought about the 50mm but i dont want to be in peoples faces too much since im not the official photographer for the wedding.

I know how you feel.

Basically theres nothing you can do but to realise you have a skill in demand,
Nobody else is going to take that picture but you.. so YOU better make dam sure aunt betty follows your instruction, and you do what it takes to get the right angle.
Be firm, fake confidence and pretend you know what you are doing. Avoid the word “ummm…”

you are an important figure there, people will be looking to you for guidance and direction so be a leader and give feedback and "smile, smile, smile"
even if they arent listening.

all the best!

Candleman is right about faking confidence you don't feel. The biggest help is knowing everything is not riding on you getting the perfect shot, so you can relax a bit. It also gives you a chance to observe the primary photographer on the side. Have fun!

Remember to breathe. Just think about you have no pressure or obligations other than your own. Any fantastic shots (many I'm sure) will be a bonus to the couple. Everyone's nervous with things their unfamiliar with. Should be great training though.

Good luck!

hmmm thats how my husband handles things. me on the other hand doesnt like alcohol at 8 in the morning so i think ill settle with a smoke and be on with it

as for everyone else who gave me tips - thanks! i like the idea of faking confidence hehe.
lets pretend i know what im doing LOL. i think this will be a great learning experience. i just hope i dont piss the other photog off. well i dont have any intention of getting in his/her way but am looking to learn off of them. in the end - it was the choice of the bride and groom. they okayed me before hand so im sure it will be ok.
like some of you said - im not under any pressure so i can relax a bit and just learn with no concequences.

This is what I do on the side-side...I do my own photography thing, but I also work for a business called, Your Party In Print...they do 'candid' photography at parties, showers, weddings, etc. I've done one wedding...and I'm doing my second next Saturday. Best advice I can give, is just DIVE IN HEAD FIRST. When I got to the first wedding, I was a tad nervous, but I said ya know what...I enjoy taking pictures and I just need to DO IT! I did, had a great time and the outcome was great. You will do the same...at least you know some of these people...the people I shot for, I knew NOT 1.

Now the first ever job I did for the business, was REALLY nerve racking and people were like...WHO is this Girl and WHY is she taking pictures of us...they didn't know I was a 'hired photographer' for the party...but I just snapped away...and got over it.

ETA: Forgot to add...there was a 'professional photographer' at the wedding I shot and I felt like you did too...scared I was going to be in her way. She was actually really rude at first...me and my boss shot the wedding - always take 2 photographers for a wedding, anyway...when we got there and started taking out our cameras, she came up and was like...um...are you taking pictures for this wedding?!?!? We were like yeah, she said...I was paid to be here, we were like - YEAH, US TOO!!! After that, we really tried to stay out of her way. It was funny!
