Default Dating Photographs

This may seem an overly simplistic question but I would be interested in you responses non-the-less.

How do you date your photographs (eg. when framed). Do you use the date the picture was taken or when it was printed? Does being processed or manipulated alter your dating?

Personally I think a relationship with a photograph is rather one-sided and all take and no give.. but maybe it's just me..

To answer the real question, I just use the EXIF info which is the date it was taken as that just seems more right to me since that is the date of the event.

Sorry, I was thinking along the same lines when I saw the thread title.

Yeah, I'm with Seltzer, I would use the image's original capture date. The simplest way to get that is just to right click on your image (or press "Control + click if using a Mac, I believe), select Properties, and then click the "Details" tab. It will have all the EXIF information you need, including the date the image was taken.

Mac highlight file and Apple + i.Usually I don't date each file but there are sometimes in dated folders from import.

Thanks. Is it that obvious that I don't use a Mac?

Ha Ha Ha Good one. May I quote you on that?

I am inclined to agree with using the date when the picture is taken. It does make sense. Guess I confused myself when I thought of heavily manipulated or altered picture. These I think of as "becoming" the picture long after it was taken, ie. not really a photograph taken but a picture created.

I date my photos by the date they were taken. Larger prints (11x14 or larger) get a full-sheet printout with the date, title (if any), my name, the photos location, full EXIF, software used and then my signature.
