Here's a quick edit.
I used mostly "color balance" and "hue/saturation". The key is to selectively edit the colors by changing the "color" to something other than "master/rgb".

Default From Old to new

What color is the dirt supposed to be? Around here that could be very black gumbo to red sand and rather much in between. Currently helping a friend with sever fade to blue and fade to red problems on old slides. This appears to be fade to green. Filters mentioned above don't help much on this one, there's a lot of data loss

I believe that it is more of a red/brown soil.

Have pulled a few color versions, but nothing significantly different from sk66. Try taking it to B&W, it seemed clearer to me there, below. My restoration work indicates you'll have much better results working with the original large scan files than the small pic posted. Good luck
