Default Fancy Pants Yacht deters evil photogtaphers. With Lasers!

Saw this article today, Russian billionaire outfitted his yacht with what may be a magical laser array that detects CCD tech and fires a laser that overloads the sensor rendering photography impossible. Meant to discourage paparazzi it instead ruins anyone's photos that just happens to be near the big, important, fancy, rocket-proof yacht. This is a dick move and may actually be illegal. So for all you future billionaires out there who think that you're so rich that not even your reflected photons can be had without a price, there's now a way for you to piss people off with ever having to see them wallowing in their pathetic, non-yacht-owning, lives.

OOohh, look at me, I'm rich! No photos! BZZZZZTTTT

it all sounds a bit BS to me.

"lasers" ...pfft how does it differentiate a CCD from any other cellphone or digital watch.
it doesnt emit anything special..

whats next.. he has a gang of sharks chained to the boat with the same "lasers" stuck on their heads ?

You're damn right he does. He also has a brigade of trained fairies that will home in on film camera users and stealthily pop open their film doors. He's serious about people not getting to take pictures of his special boat. Super serious.

hahahahaha, he's probably broke one too many laws in obtaining his wealth and wants to keep his life private. All the more reason for photographers to go after him

I think it's the reflectivity of the sensor - it reflects the laser back to base which then flahes light in the camera to spoil the picture...or something like that I think I read over on the AP news pages.

Stick a mirror ball on the hotshoe and see if you can confuse it?

I still love the fact that a boat costs $1.2 BILLION. Like, with a B and everything.

If it looks like BS and smells like BS it more than likely is BS.

Think about it. A camera's sensor, the CCD, on a DSLR camera on a sunny day will be exposed for a fraction of a second. Sunny 16 rule says, f/16 and 1/ISO. Say ISO 200, thats 1/200th of a second. And you think a Russian billionaire has a laser that can detect that CCD while it is exposed, over a 360 degree field of view, a CCD that is at most 35mm wide and up to a km away? Pull the other one.

And what happens if the camera has a CMOS sensor. Soulds like your camera shy pap would be screwed then!

Well where does this leave me? I suppose I'll have to buy some big arse lasers to zap all the DPS people trying to score one of my super models on my Yacht.

Cheers,
