When one gets a little older, or you get some more perspective, you realize you are not alone here. This site is open to novice and professional, young and old, eager and jaded. So if sections or responses in sections seem useless, pass over them, they aren't for you. But as noted above, first-time posters find a little attention is a welcome thing.

If my post count counts, it's because I've been in touch with many fine members for nearly 3 years and learned more than I might have just by lurking. Not all good social interaction has to be about technical aspects of photography. Sometimes just commenting is enough. Like saying "Hi" with a smile to a new friend.

At 10,883 posts, I can attest to the further observation that posts are only as valuable as the honesty, empathy, and effort you put into them. Quality over quantity, just like photographs.

Nicely said jC.

I've actually enjoyed reading this thread and I can see merits for both arguments though I'm leaning towards the "if you don't like the sys forum don't go there" and "you should know better than to look at someones post count as an indicator to their photographic prowess" line of thinking.

btw, I've been away for a while so what ever happened to the tag's "point and shoot" "DSLR" etc as an indicator for number of posts. They were fun. I was looking forward to getting my "superzoom" badge. I figured at the rate I post I would have gotten there in the next 2-3 years.

PS my post count goes up proportionally to my level of insomnia (as I type this at 3am)

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but lately the SYS forum seems to grow faster than it did in the past. I realize we have quite a few members but I think if people would take the time to actually read the "rules" posted at the top of each forum that some of the traffic may slow a bit. For example, there are quite a few of our newest members that start three or four threads in the same day in the same section. Also I see a lot of SYS posts asking for a critique on the photo when we have a forum for that. I understand that we have forum moderators but I think as members we could read and try and follow the rules to help the site run even smoother. Sorry for the rant but It's just something I've noticed over the past few days.

It's true, we've been busy... It would be nice if more people bothered to check out the guidlines, makes the place run a little more smoothly. The Mods are on it... and so am I
